Jesse Lee Hooks, known by some as "Bams," 47, passed away at home on February 8, 2025, with his beloved wife, Sabrina, son, Ayden, and mother, Katherine, by his side in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He leaves behind a legacy of full-tilt passion for life and an intense, selfless joy for repairing and re-homing lost souls.
Jesse was born August 16, 1977, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, to Katherine Sue Voronovich-Johnston and H. Dennis Hooks. He grew up in San Diego, California, where he passed time with his younger brother, Jacob Ray Hooks, and friends around town, worked at a retirement home as a teen, intimidated people with his size and volume, while simultaneously radiating resolute strength and compassion to those who took the time to know him.
He loved being outdoors–fishing, camping, and barbecuing with friends and family. During his final years, Jesse turned his considerable attention, enthusiasm, and glee to dog training. Through his natural gift of beautiful empathy for animals and humans who suffered, Jesse has saved countless lives, both human and canine.
Jesse is survived by his endlessly tolerant and fiercely protective wife, Sabrina Marie Chambers; son, Ayden Lee Hooks; son, Elijah Charles Jordan; stepfather and mother, Joseph and Katherine Voronovich; sister, Nichole Raylene Smith; and brother, Jacob (Lailloni) Hooks; and brothers, Coby Lee and Kyan Ray Voronovich. He was very close to the rest of his surviving family, nephews, Kieren Hooks and Brantley Jensen; nieces, Akira Hooks, Paisley Smith, Destinee Armstrong, and Crystina Armstrong; and his grandmother, Retha Greene.
He is preceded in death by his father; paternal grandparents, Herschel Hooks and Dorthy Hammond; maternal grandfather, EJ Johnston; and step-grandfather, Ray Greene.
Jesse, the smooth-talking, aggravating, lover of life, finder and fixer of the lost, will be greatly missed.
Friends are welcome to Jesse’s Celebration of Life at First Christian Church in Idaho Falls on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 4:30 p.m.
