Dearest Nancy & Curtis, Abram, Meridith, & Vanessa. And most especially Jesse's little boy~ I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I'm sorry I won't be able to make it to Jesse's funeral, but would like to leave you with some of my memories of your son. Jesse was a fun comrade. He could always leave a smile on someone’s face. I appreciated his kindness through some of my darkest times in my life. Jesse has a way with the ladies and he intrigued a few of my friends, but I knew in my heart he was a best friend to have. I am glad I got to know him when we were growing up in the church. He has a special spirit and I know without a doubt he is in the arms of our Savior loving like he has never loved before. He will be greatly missed. How grateful I am for the Atonement and what it offers us. I'm excited for Jesse and for his progression on the other side of the veil. I love Jesse and send many XOXO to his family. May God bless you all to heal and remember the joy he has brought to your lives.
Much happiness,
Karyn Rhead Kidd(from the 16th ward)

Curtis and Nancy,
I am so very sorry. I had the pleasure to know and love Jesse for over a decade. I even had the opportunity to live and work with him in Utah 9 years ago. I would like to tell you some the things that I remember most about Jesse so that those feelings/memories can be used to comfort others. I have never known another person with such a presence of life and happiness as Jesse had. When I close my eyes to think of him the two things that stick out most in my mind are his smile and his eyes. His smile was immediately heart warming and contagious (not to mention would melt the heart of any girl in the room). His eyes literally had a twinkle that made people happy and comfortable.
May God bless you with comfort in this tragedy. My prayers are with your family.

I would just like to give my deepest condolences to the Collard family. We don't know each other but I have known Jesse since High School. We went to different schools but through sports and trying to help one another connect with girls from our respective schools, built an instant connection that lasted until recently. The thing I will remember the most is the way that he tried to to squeeze the most out of every minute of every day. I will also always appreciate the fact that when I was making the transition to Salt Lake, he put me up on the weekends while I was training to teach snowboarding in a nearby resort. Without his help, I may not be where I am today. Thanks bro. I'll miss you!

Oh dear ones...
My heart hurts with your heart. I am so sorry that all of you have to go through the sorrow of death, but it is part of life. I have no great words of comfort or wisdom to give you, I can only let you know that you are not alone in your grief. May God be with you and your family...and our prayers of course. I will try to be in touch with you later, when the 'madness' settles down...dear Nancy and Curt! Love to you all...

Curt, Nancy, and family,
Oh, I was so shocked to open the paper and see the obituaries with the name Collard. What a handsome young man. I am so sorry....this isn't supposed to happen ... we're not supposed to bury our children.
I am sorry to say that I never met any of your children. It will be nice for all of them to be together to celebrate Jesse's life.
Please know that I am thinking of all of you, Saturday. I would love to come to the service, but have a previous commitment.
Jesse is now free of his pain on this earth. My prayers are with you.

Vanessa, I have thought of you so often over the years. You are in my thoughts and prayers now, and I am so very sorry for your sudden loss of a wonderful brother. I hope you find comfort in knowing that God is "near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves." (Psalm 34:18). He is closer than you know.
