Click Here To View Memorial Video Gerald “ Jerry” Dean Cook, 72, of Idaho Falls, passed away on August 31, 2014, at his home. He was born May 25, 1942, in Denver, Colorado to Jack Cook and Grace Truman Mitchell Cook. His father’s work and his own work took him to numerous cities. He lived in Melbourne, Australia; Salt Lake City, Utah; Miami, Florida; Tequesta, Florida; Middletown, Maryland; Kennewick, Washington; and Idaho Falls, Idaho. Jerry attended high school in Salt Lake City and graduated from Olympus High School. He also attended University of Utah. He joined the U. S. Army, served as a Major in the Utah Army National Guard, and retired from the 19th Special Forces. On June 18, 1965, he married Barbara LaRae Henson in Salt Lake City and on December 6, 2008, their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He worked as an expediter and supervisor for Bechtel Corporation. Jerry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was currently serving as Ward Mission Leader. He enjoyed history, traveling, coin and stamp collecting and helping others with their collections. His life was filled with service to others. He donated school supplies to needy schools throughout the country and was passionate about raising funds for Juvenile Diabetes. He was a mentor with children, had a good sense of humor, and loved telling jokes. He especially loved his family and spending time with his precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors are: Wife: Barbara Cook, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Lynette (Kevin) Bird, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Trisha L. (Manuel) Carvajal, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Jamie Sue (Cory) Nielsen, Boise, ID Brother: Jack (Becky) Cook, Jr., Norman, OK Sister: Jane Brinker, Boise, ID 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014, at the Idaho Falls LDS Taylor Crossing Ward (2040 Brentwood), with Bishop Matt Gardels officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and on Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery in McCammon, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at http://team.jdrf.org/campaigns/.
