Jerold J. Hammer

Jerold J. Hammer, 93, of Pocatello, passed away October 25, 2022, at his home. He was under the care of Heritage Hospice.

Jerold was born July 1, 1929, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Harold Hartland Hammer and Grace Mamie Lombard Hammer. He grew up and attended schools in Ammon and graduated from Ammon High School. He also attended Utah State College.

On October 1, 1953, he married Barbara Glen Whitehead in Ammon, Idaho. Jerold and Barbara made their home in Idaho Falls, where Jerold worked as a firefighter and a fire service instructor for the National Fire Academy and for FEMA.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the bishopric, high priest, temple worker, class instructor, and was an Eagle Scott. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, traveling and especially family. He was a master at painting with saw.

Jerold is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Glen Hammer of Pocatello, ID; son, Matt W. (Lona) Hammer of Kennewick, WA; son, Timothy J. (Janice) Hammer of S. Jordan, UT; son, Jeffery Glen Hammer; brother, Wayne V. (Helen) Hammer of Meridian, ID;  21 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; daughter, Sandra Jo Robertson; sisters, Virginia Messick and Beverly Streeper; great-grandson, Benjamin David Hammer; and great-granddaughter, Charli Ann Hammer.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the Solitude Ward, 7118 South Ledgerock Drive, with Bishop Matt Anderson officiating.  The family will visit with friends from 11-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
