Jerald passed away the morning of April 16, 2026, in the home where he raised his family. After being diagnosed with cancer, he faced an uncertain path and made the brave decision not to pursue additional treatment, choosing what was right for him, to prioritize peace and dignity on his own terms.
In his final days, he shared some insight into his life. He knew that he had lived much of his life appreciating and observing his family from a distance. He never wanted to be the center of attention or be an imposition on anyone. Instead he was content and proud to see his children grow into the people they have become. He lived the life he wanted to live and was happy.
Though he chose a solitary and private life, he wrestled with a quiet fear that many of us feel of facing the end alone. But in his last moments, he was in the company of loved ones. He knew he wasn't alone and he knew he was loved.
He was preceded in death by two of his brothers and is survived by three siblings, three children, and eight grandchildren. Later this year, his legacy will continue with the birth of his first great granddaughter.
A private family ceremony will be held soon.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who knew our brother and father not mourn his death, but instead celebrate his memory, and that he lived a life that was truly his own.
