Jene Melton

Jene Hugh Melton, 85, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away July 11, 2016, at Fairwinds-Sand Creek Retirement Community.

Jene was born October 8, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Porter M. Melton and Vivian P. Taylor Melton. He grew up and attended schools in Deadwood, South Dakota and graduated from Deadwood High School. He also attended Black Hills State University, Arkansas A&M and Boston School of Music.

On June 3, 1953, he married Betty M. Melton in Sturgis, South Dakota. To this union were born five children, Kara, Porter, Patrick, Jeffery and Deborah. Jene and Betty made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Jene was a teacher and a musician. Betty passed away March 18, 2008.

He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Jene enjoyed music, computer and electronics.

Jene is survived by his daughter, Deborah Weiers of Rigby, ID; daughter, Kara (Leo) Diede of Deadwood, SD; son, Jeff Melton of Sturgis, SD; son, Porter Marc (Joyce) Melton of Woodbridge, VA; son, Patrick (Carolyn) Melton of Pass Christian, MS; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty M. Melton.

Services will be held at a later date in South Dakota.
