Jeffrey Scott Long, 53, of Idaho Falls, passed away May 28, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family, holding the hand of his wife, Beth. He was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.
Jeff was born September 28, 1966, in Inglewood, California, to Donald Robert Long and Elberta Rae Patrick Long. He grew up and attended schools in Provo, graduated from Provo High School, and attended Utah State University on a music scholarship. At USU he met his wife, Beth. Then he joined the Military and became an Airborne MP. After his service, he attended Weber State University and got his degree in Criminal Psychology.
Jeff and Beth were married in Dallas, Texas on December 19, 1987. Because of his military service, they were stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Fort Hood, Texas. After he served in Desert Storm, they returned to Utah to finish his education at Weber State University. Upon graduation, he received a job with the Bureau of Land Management as a Law Enforcement Ranger in Kanab, Utah, where they lived for ten years. They then moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where they have resided since. He was a Deputized U.S. Marshall.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an avid scouter and helped to establish Troops 1010 & 10 for Scouts BSA in the community. He enjoyed serving at the Idaho Falls Humanitarian Center, was a huge supporter of musical arts, advanced EMT and EMT instructor. He loved to be with his family, to serve, being around people, and being active in the outdoors.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Beth Long of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Roy (Brittany Appleby) Long of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, RaeAnn (Ray) Ricks of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Ashlee (Cenobio) Feliciano-Galeana of Idaho Falls, ID; sons, Aaron Long and Timothy Long, both of Idaho Falls, ID; mother, Elberta Long of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Debbie (John) Farnsworth of Orem, UT; sister, Betsey (Trent) Smith of Tetonia, ID; and 8 grandchildren, Zachary, Lily, Michael, Nathan, Amelia, Nayeli, Caitlynn, and Henry.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Robert Long; and his brother, Patrick Donald Long.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. MST on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at Wood Funeral Home East Side (963 S. Ammon) with Bishop Jeff Wheeler officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 6:30-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services, both visitations will be held at Wood East Side. Burial will be in the Cache-Clawson Cemetery in Tetonia, Idaho. The services will be streamed live here on this webpage at the time of the service.
Military Rites will be performed by the Teton County Veterans Memorial Team and the Bureau of Land Management Honor Guard. A flag ceremony will be performed by the Scouts BSA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to Troops 1010 & 10 of the BSA Grand Teton Council.
