Jeffrey Jones

Jeffrey Dean Jones, 59, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 4, 2017, at his home after a valiant fight against peritoneal mesothelioma, surrounded by his loved ones. He was under the care of his family and Hands of Hope Hospice. Jeff was born April 19, 1958, in Pocatello, Idaho, to William Dean Jones and Annalee Lords Jones. He grew up and attended schools in Almo and Malta and graduated from Raft River High School. He also attended Ricks College, then graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. He served a full-time LDS Mission to Japan from 1977-1979. In May 1, 1981, he married Nancy Jane Rutter in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. They made their home in American Fork, Utah, while Jeff was attending Brigham Young University, and welcomed a precious daughter, Jadee Lynn Jones, who passed away as an infant. Nancy passed away July 24, 1987. In 1990, Jeff moved to Idaho Falls to work for Global Travel. There he met and fell in love with Sonja Leigh Holmgren, and they were married April 13, 1991, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where they raised their two sons, Nathan and Ryan. A dedicated and devoted husband and father, Jeff was a kind-hearted soul. He quietly went about his duties and blessed many lives. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jeff served as Stake and Ward Clerk, Elders Quorum President, on the Stake High Council at BYU-Idaho, as a missionary, and pianist. As a teenager he earned his Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed traveling, skiing, and activities with his family. He loved the Arts. Jeff is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Sonja Jones of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Nathan Elliott (Annie) Jones of Idaho Falls, ID, son, Ryan Andrew (Tayla) Jones of Idaho Falls, ID, parents, William & Annalee Jones of Almo, ID, brother, Gregg (Charlotte) Jones of Twin Falls, ID, brother, Rod (Laura) Jones of Almo, ID, sister, Leeann (Jim) Moss of Bountiful, UT, 3 grandchildren, Andrew, Jonah, and Elliott Jones. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Jane Jones, and daughter, Jadee Lynn Jones. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017, at the Idaho Falls LDS Grandview Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Bishop Jeff Clifford officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
