Jean "Jean" Ricks

Click Here To View Memorial Video Alice Jean Hart Ricks, 86, life-long Idaho Falls resident, passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at the Pine Brook Assisted Living Center. Jean was born September 15, 1927 in Pocatello, Idaho, the family moving soon thereafter to Idaho Falls. She was the daughter of John and Ruth Hart of Hart’s/Jack and Jean’s Bakery. She graduated from Idaho Falls High School and attended the University of Utah. On September 15, 1950, she married E. Lloyd Ricks. He passed away in 2012. Her talents and compassion touched her family, neighbors, and community. She and her brother Jack (the Party Shop and Reception Center), created thousands of cakes for a broad and devoted clientele over their lifetimes. She also taught many neighborhood kids and adults piano. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings, including Stake Relief Society President, and in many musical capacities. Jean was a devoted and supportive mother, sporting a wide range of interests and concerns involving her children and their spouses and her grandchildren. She was the center of family life, sponsoring dinners, get-togethers, and parties, treating guests and visitors to her incredible cooking skills and lively conversation. She is survived by her seven children: Ruthanne (Hal) Gines, Rand (Colleen) Ricks, Ryan (Janet) Ricks, Ron (Shelli) Ricks, all of Idaho Falls; Rick (Raegan) Ricks, Robyn (Ken) Child, both of Lake Point, Utah; and Rebecca (Mike) Lasswell of Spring, Texas; 32 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her brother, Jack Hart. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at the Idaho Falls North Stake Center, 955 Memorial Drive. A viewing will be held from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 27 at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, and from 10:00-10:45 prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. Special and heart-felt thanks are extended to the wonderful and professional staffs of Good Samaritan Society of Idaho Falls, Pine Brook Assisted Living Center, Hands of Hope Hospice, and Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
