Jean Hardy Maraffio, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 29, 2026, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Jean was born August 18, 1945, in Oakley, Idaho, to Milton Lorenzo Hardy and Eyvonne Hermese Taylor Hardy. She attended elementary school in Oakley, Idaho, and at age 8, her family moved to Idaho Falls where she graduated from Idaho Falls High School.
Jean married Russel Northrup on May 24, 1967. They raised eight children together in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, California, and Utah. They were married until 2006 when Russel passed away.
Throughout the years of their marriage, Jean worked as an American Greeting Cards Distributor for many years. She worked a short stint at Dairy Queen where she perfected the signature Dairy Queen swirl. She also worked as an Assistant General Manager for Wilkinson’s House of Lighting where she insisted on getting each of her grandchildren a gift from “HER” gift shop when they would come to visit.
On June 28, 2008, Jean married the love of her life, William Robert Maraffio in St. George, Utah. They originally met in high school study hall and parted ways after graduation. After 46 years, they were finally reunited, only to be separated for a short time upon Bill’s passing. They are now joyfully together again. Jean and Bill made their home in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 17, 2011. They were an amazing team. They dedicated their lives to serving their families and friends. They made every effort to support baby blessings, baptisms, graduations, weddings, and much, much more.
Jean was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, including Primary teacher, Relief Society President and counselor, Stake Relief Society President, Young Women President, and Stake Young Women President. She enjoyed sewing, cleaning, and doing yard work.
She spent the last 15 years serving in the Idaho Falls Temple. This became a highlight in her life. She frequently expressed her love for the temple and those she served with and the many friends she made there.
Jean is survived by her children, Bob (Julie) Northrup of South Jordan, UT, Lonny (Tammy) Northrup of Lindon, UT, Kami (Tim) Floyd of St. George, UT, Karron (Jim) Jackson of Spanish Fork, UT, Robert (Nina) Matt of Payson, UT, Derrick (Margo) Northrup of Chubbuck, ID, and Karamie (Neil) Martineau of Woods Cross, UT; 43 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Russel Northrup, Bill Maraffio; her son, Scott Northrup; her parents, Milton and Eyvonne Hardy; and her brothers, Delmer G Hardy and William “Bill” Hardy.
