Jean Collard

Jean Slack Collard, 84, of Idaho Falls died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of complications of pneumonia. Jean was born August 23, 1926 in Provo, Utah to H. Roy Slack and Ethel Holt Slack. She grew up in Provo and graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelors degree in music in 1950. Jean was talented violinist and played violin in the Idaho Falls Symphony for 40 years, 25 years as the concertmaster. She spent countless hours of service performing for funerals, church services and other events. She taught violin lessons privately and strings in the public school system. She was the recipient of the Music Woman of the year by the Idaho Falls Music Club. Jean married Grant E. Collard on June 24, 1952 at the Idaho Falls Temple. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many capacities. With her husband she served a mission in the England Manchester Mission. She served as a temple officiator at the Idaho Falls Temple for 15 years. She was devoted mother and a friend to many. She is survived by her husband and five children: Steven (Lorraine) Collard of San Diego, California; Marilyn (Rick) Olson of Iowa City, Iowa; Ann (Brent) Calder of Salt Lake City, Utah; Elaine (Mike) Koontz of Sacramento, California; Jeanne (Jeff) Hockett of Salt Lake City, Utah; 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers. Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, June 13th at the Idaho Falls Stake Center at 1155 First Street with Bishop Douglas Hillman presiding. A viewing for family and friends will be held at the Wood Funeral Home at 272 North Ridge Ave. on Sunday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
