Jaysen Alvin Bassett escaped this mortal realm on March 22, 2025, at the age of 48. He did it on purpose to avoid being told he couldn't go camping or hunting in his condition. He passed away peacefully at home with the love of his life. He was a good man, perfect husband, Dad, and Grandpa. He was world-renowned for his patience, holding back his opinion, and giving everyone a second chance.
Those who knew him best, will never forget his sense of humor, his dimple when he lied, and his undying love. A man of few words, had plenty to say when the doctors informed him hospice was his best option. When he knew he was dying, he decided it was time to tell it how he saw it. The remainder of this obituary was written by Jaysen himself, so take your complaints up with him.
I was born on December 30, 1976, in Soda Springs, Idaho, the son of Alvin Bassett (God Rest his Soul, I bet he rolled in his grave a million times from all the drama) and Sandra Hansen. I leave behind a saint of a widow and a very dysfunctional family that lives and thrives on drama.
I leave behind my wife, eight children, five grandchildren, and the Soda Springs Bassett clan, for which I was the favorite cousin (just don't ask the family), and a tribe of misfits that made sure I didn't kill myself before dad came to get me.
I will be sorely missed by my wife, a handful of my children, and a few siblings. I am survived by my wife, Kathryn (KC); my children: Cheyenne (Joel) Miller, Justin (Tristine) Page, Tristin (Angel) Bassett, Travian Bassett, Terrell (Zorina) Bassett, Taylyn Nii, Ryan Nii, and Makati Bassett. I am also survived by my sisters: Evelyn, Rhonda, Missy, Jillie Bean, Deborah, Korey, and my brother, Squish. Grandchildren: Rowen and Fenix Miller and Bennett and Cooper Page, and soon-to-be-born, Bassett baby. I was preceded in death by my loving father, Alvin Bassett.
I leave behind nothing, as I gave it all to those that truly loved and cared about me. Actions speak louder than words and family isn't always blood. If I tried to give you something and you turned it down, KC will be reaching out. To those I love most, I spent the last year with, fulfilling my bucket list, thank you all.
In lieu of "I wish I would have known he was this bad," please keep your opinions to yourself, it wasn't a secret I was racing to the other side for over a year. Following my wishes, there will not be a funeral service, but well-wishers are encouraged to write a note of farewell on a bottle of banana rum and drink it in my honor.
A 'Celebration of Life' will be held, in lieu of a service, at a later date. Details will be announced according to instructions left with KC.
