Jay Selvoy Waters, 74, of Firth, passed away December 14, 2014, at his home. He was under the care of his family and Avalon Home Health and Hospice.
Jay was born November 24, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Douglas Leo Waters and Martha Knorr Drexal Waters. He grew up and attended schools in Salt Lake City. He served as a Seaman First Class in the United States Navy.
On April 15, 1983, he married Annabella Hill Weeks in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union were born nine children, Lori, Deby, Jay, Cherie, Lila, Darren, Michael, Jordan, and Starla. Jay and Ann made their home in Firth, Idaho, where Jay worked as a member of the maintenance crew for Idaho Supreme.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He coached basketball, soccer, baseball, wrestling, football, and enjoyed watching Utah Jazz basketball. He was a 20-year volunteer at the Firth Fire Department, and drove the fire truck every year in the Firth parade. He was a committed coach in Idaho Falls, Shelley, and Firth since the 1970's covering basketball, soccer, baseball, wrestling, and most recently enjoyed coaching jazz basketball camp in Shelley.
Jay is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Ann Waters of Firth, ID;
daughter, Lori Jean Figueroa of Salt Lake City, UT;
daughter, Deby Jo Sargent of Idaho Falls, ID;
son, Jay S. (Roxanne) Waters Jr. of Twin Falls, ID;
daughter, Cherie Elizabeth (Travis) Waters-Burton of Salt Lake City, UT;
daughter, Lila Jean (Vince Jessen) Christensen of Goshen, ID;
son, Darren Lyle Weeks of Shelley, ID;
son, Michael Sean (Ursula) Weeks of Reno, NV;
son, Jordan Ray Scott of Firth, ID;
brother, Dennis LaMar Waters of Salt Lake City, UT;
18 grandchildren and 17 ½ great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Leo Waters and Martha Knorr Waters; brothers, Don Otto Waters and Jerry Leo Waters; and a daughter, Starla Ann Weeks Winkler.
No formal services will be held per Jay’s request. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2014, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue.
