JAY FOSTER
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Jay Dee Foster, 78, passed away at his home on June 27, 2006, following a long illness. Jay was a long time resident and business owner in the Idaho Falls area. He loved the LDS Church and was an active member. Among his many callings he served as the Bishop in the Idaho Falls 3rd Ward and as a Stake Patriarch.
Jay was born to George Henry and Ruth Helen Miller Foster on June 30, 1927, in Cedron, Idaho, and was raised in the Driggs Valley. He was the fourth of ten children. Jay was taught to love hard work, horses and the great outdoors as he worked the family farm. After graduating from Driggs High School he attended Ricks College until he left to serve an LDS mission in the Southern States Mission mostly in Georgia and Florida. After his mission he served in the U.S. Marine Corp as an MP during the Korean War. After his time in the service he attended Boise State Barber College. While at barber school, Jay met and then married Sharon Rae McQueen. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 6, 1954. He started work as a barber while he continued his education at Utah State University. Jay moved his family back to Idaho Falls in 1958 where he continued his life long career as a barber. Jay owned and operated “Jay’s Headquarters” from 1974 until he was forced to retire due to bad health in 2003. Including the Marine Corp, Jay barbered for more than 50 years.
Jay never lost his love for farming, horses and the mountains. He operated a small farm with his oldest son, Kenneth. Jay and his brothers owned and operated “Teton Expeditions” which included river float trips, fishing trips and horseback pack trips throughout Idaho and Wyoming. He was an avid hunter and loved searching the back country with his sons for the “Big One”. But most of all he loved being with his family. The top of his list was his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon, and his six children, Kenneth Foster (Patti) and Kevin Foster, both of Idaho Falls, Linda Herbst (John III) of Ogden, UT, Sherry Clements (Royce) of Idaho Falls, Kym Foster (Wendy) of Bountiful, UT, and Kelly Foster (Stefanie) of Idaho Falls, 22 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; four brothers, Melvin Foster (LaDawn) of Logan, UT, Silvon Kay Foster (Ruth) of Lewisville, ID, Steve Foster (RaNae) of Driggs, ID, Glen Foster (Karen) of Rigby, ID; three sisters, Claudia Archibald of Ogden, UT, Carolyn Thornley (Ron) of Brigham City, UT, and Flossie Evans (Ray) of Portland, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Donald Foster (killed in World War II) and Ross Foster.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2006, at the Idaho Falls LDS 3rd Ward (Central Stake Building, 2025 Jennie Lee Drive), with Bishop Nathan Smith, officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and for one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.

Jay cut my hair for a number of years. He liked to talk about his grandchildren and his horses.
I always felt he knew the purpose of life.
He was a great friend, and I hope someday to be worthy enough to meet him again.
