Jay Thurston Chambers, 88, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 1, 2016, at Turtle & Crane Assisted Living Center. He was under the loving care of his family and Aspen Home Health & Hospice. Jay was born March 17, 1928, in Smithfield, Utah, to Alfred William Chambers and Lillian Thurston Chambers. He grew up and attended schools in Cache Valley and graduated from North Cache High School. He also attended Utah State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering and education. On December 20, 1946, he married Ruth Madorah McGee in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where they raised their four children, Claudia, Marilyn, Christine, and Peggy. Jay worked as an electrical engineer for the Department of Energy. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities over the years. He enjoyed gardening, his beautiful flower beds, and his grandkids. Jay is survived by his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Ruth Chambers of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Claudia (Lynn, deceased) Cook of Shelley, ID, daughter, Marilyn (Ron) Larson of Ammon, ID, daughter, Christine (Ed) Hemmer of Idaho Falls, ID, daughter, Peggy (Will) Garvin of Idaho Falls, ID. 18 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Alfred Leo Chambers, Dale Chambers, and Marlin Chambers, two sisters, Carma Boudero and Lola Chambers, granddaughter, Shelly Garvin, a grandson, Adrian Cook, and a son-in-law, Lynn Cook. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016, at the Idaho Falls LDS Skyline Ward, 2345 West 17th South, with Bishop Jeff Clifford of the Grandview Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the New Sweden Cemetery.
