Janet (Marler) Phelps

Janet Eileen Marler Phelps, 84, of Idaho Falls, passed away May 3, 2024, at her home. She was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho and her loving family.

Janet was born September 30, 1939, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Loran Josiah Marler and Zella Priscilla Ryset Marler. She grew up and attended schools in Lima, Montana, and Idaho Falls, Idaho, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. She also attended Salt Lake City College of Medical Careers.

On July 14, 1958, she married Joel Hawley Phelps in Elko, Nevada. They were later sealed in the Manti, Utah Temple. Janet and Joel made their home in Paonia, Colorado, until the untimely death of her husband. She ultimately moved to Utah and worked as a medical assistant for Dr. Feigal.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, The Poetry Society, Square Dancing Club, Hand and Foot Card Club of Old Ladies, and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed writing poetry, knitting, crocheting, sewing, cooking, decorating, and doll collecting.

Janet is survived by her son, Joel Phelps of Denver, CO; daughter, Wendy Koplin of Magna, UT; daughter, Rebecca (Eric) Fitts of Pleasant Grove, UT; son, Christopher (Sheila) Phelps of Idaho Falls, ID; 30 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joel Phelps; brothers, Loren Marler, Fay Marler, George Marler, Frank Marler, Bob Marler, and Kenneth Marler; sisters, Helen Simper and Shirlene Lords; and sons, James Daniel Phelps, Micheal Jay Phelps, and Cary John Phelps.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to services, both visitations at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
