LOYD SAMMONS
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- James “Loyd” Sammons, 90,
of Challis, died August 1, 2004, at the home of his daughter in Idaho Falls.
He was born July 24, 1914 in Hitchins, Kentucky to James
Franklin Sammons and Myrtle Mae Hale Sammons. He grew up in the area and
graduated from Hitchins High School. He lived in Hitchins until 1935 when
he joined the CCC and was sent to Camp Challis. He later worked for Boeing
in Seattle and then during World War II enlisted in the United States Marines.
Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to Challis where he has since
resided.
On May 16, 1948, he married Doris Nadene Gardiol in Challis.
He worked for the U. S. Forest Service in the Challis National Forest until
his retirement. For over 50 years he was a member of the American Legion
where he was a service officer helping widows with their benefits. He also
was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Challis and volunteered at the Senior
Citizens. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and carpentry.

Daughter: Delores (Doug) Rumble, Ammon, ID
Sister: Anna Lois Burke, Cabin Creek, WVa
Sister: Elizabeth Rogers, Ceredo, WV
9 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m Saturday, August
7, 2004, at the Challis Mission Church, with Pastor Ben Orchard, of Christ
Community Church in Idaho Falls, officiating.
The family will visit with friends from 10:15-11:00 a.m.
prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in the Challis Cemetery under the direction
of Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., Idaho Falls, ID. Military rites
will be performed by the Phillip Kirk Post 109 of the American Legion.
