James Leigh “Jim” McKenzie, 58, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 31, 2008, at his home.
He was born March 31, 1950, in Oakland, California, to Leigh McKenzie and Esther Lorene Evans McKenzie. He grew up and attended schools in the area, graduating from Granada High School. He attended San Joaquin Delta College, where he received an Associates Degree. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, and Combat Infantry Badge First Award.
On November 4, 1978, he married Debra Marie Ewald in Reno, Nevada. He worked as a Journeyman Pattern Maker.
Jim enjoyed camping, woodworking, bowling, sports, playing Bunco, and traveling. He especially loved spending time with his family.
Survivors are:
Wife: Debra McKenzie, Idaho Falls, ID
Daughter: Dawn Shiree McKenzie, Atlanta, GA
Daughter: Sarah Rae (Andrew) Johnson, Lodi, CA
Brother: Steven Allen McKenzie, Takoma Park, MD
Sister: Karen Rae Thomas, Idaho Falls, ID
Sister: Judy Kaye Kirby, Taft, CA
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2008, in the Fireside Room of the Idaho Falls Calvary Chapel, 4250 South 25th East. A Celebration of Life Memorial is pending in California.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 2676 Vista Avenue, Boise, ID 83705.

I am so sorry for your loss and hope that you are all doing well. Jim was like a second dad to me at times and I am glad that he was able to join me on my wedding day.
