James Stewart Kilburn, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away on October 15, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 26, 1928, at Jamestown, New York, to Kenneth Kilburn and Mary Town Kilburn. He grew up and attended schools in the area, graduating from Kenmore High School in Buffalo, New York. He was active in scouting and earned his Eagle Scout award.
Jim served as a Private in the U.S. Army during World War II. When he was discharged from the Army after his tour in Japan, he hitchhiked from California to New York looking for his ideal place to call home. He continued his education by attending Union College. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He took additional courses at the University of Southern California, and UCLA.
During Jim’s earlier years he traveled between California and Colorado working in various Engineering capacities. He was a member of the Colorado Elks and Grand Junction Chamber. He came to Idaho Falls in 1979 and worked for EG&G in their architech engineering branch.
On September 1, 1984, he married Donna Nadine Hoffman in Lake Tahoe, California. He retired from EG&G in 1987 and pursued his love for travel and adventure.
Jim was always methodical in every task and believed it should be done right the first time. He was always interested in family, their education and careers. He enjoyed the outdoors, adventure, travel and finding new places. He loved to sing, always had a great sense of humor and to his last days continued to make people laugh.
