James Clark Humphrey, 100, of Idaho Falls, passed away September 1, 2025, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
James was born October 3, 1924, in Bliss, Idaho, to Herbert Roland Humphrey and Winifred Caffall Humphrey. He grew up and attended schools in Eastern Oregon, and Southwestern Idaho. He graduated from Mountain Home High School.
James served in the United States Army during World War II, and received two Purple Hearts.
He married Esther McWherter in 1946. To this union were born four children. They were later divorced.
On June 14, 1973, he married Aloha Jane Ghan in Las Vegas, Nevada. James and Aloha made their home in Idaho Falls. At the time of his passing he and Aloha had been married for 52 years.
He was a 43 year employee for Union Pacific Railroad, where he began his career as a telegrapher, and went on to work as an agent for the rest of his career.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a Boy Scout leader, served on the City Council of Montpelier, Idaho, and the Union Pacific Railroad Old-Timers Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and horse racing. He was a quarter horse trainer and had track records in several Intermountain Area Tracks.
James is survived by his wife, Aloha Jane Humphrey of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Merilyn (Larry Watson) Humphrey of Coos Bay, OR; son, James "Bud" (Patricia) Humphrey of Idaho Falls, ID; step-daughter, LaTauna Ghan of Denver, CO; step-son, Shon (Brandy) Ghan of Idaho Falls, ID; 1 grandchild; 2 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; and 9 step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Winifred Humphrey; sisters, Marjorie Humphrey, and Kathleen Johanson; brothers, Herbert Humphrey, and Howard Humphrey; daughters, Marsha Brunett, and Wendy Humphrey; step-son, Gregory Wade Ghan; and his first wife, Esther Humphrey.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue in Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
