James “Jim” Albert Haney, 78, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 13, 2015 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Jim was born on February 3, 1937, the second child of Wayne”Hap” Haney and Marguerite Bouse Haney in Silver Lake, Indiana, where he graduated from high school in 1955. He entered Indiana University that fall and on to Indiana University Medical School where he graduated with honors in 1962. While in school Jim received a membership in Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Omega Alpha, Delta Phi Alpha and Alpha Epsilon Delta honorary societies.
On January 27, 1957 he married his high school sweetheart “Lynn” and they have enjoyed 58 years together.
Jim joined the Air Force in 1961 and had his internship at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco, California. Then on to San Antonio, Texas where he received his anesthesia training at Wilford Hall Air Force Hospital. From Texas they moved to Keesler Air Force Base Hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi for three years. By this time the family had grown to include four sons: Sam, Tom, Joe and Dan. In 1968 upon fulfilling his military obligation he moved the family to Denver, Colorado where he joined an anesthesia group at Presbyterian Hospital. In 1980 he came to Idaho Falls to head up the new Surgical Center on 17th Street, where he worked until his retirement in 1996.
While in Denver he got his private pilot license and continued to fly for twenty fours years, getting his instrument rating in Idaho Falls. An unfortunate airplane accident not only ended his flying, but also his medical practice. He and Lynn took up traveling in their RV from Idaho to Florida and California and all points in between, always with their golf clubs in tow. Winters were spent in Arizona and southern California.
Over the years his activities included flying, boating, jet skiing, snowmobiling, skiing, golfing and motorcycling.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lynn;
son, Sam (Sabrina) Haney of Woodland, CA;
son, Tom Haney of Idaho Falls, ID;
son, Joe (Jill) Haney of Pocatello, ID;
son, Dan (Nima) Haney of Rigby, ID;
sister, Marceil (John) Conley of Warsaw, IN;
8 grandchildren, 2 grandchildren in-law and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Haney.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Ammon Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 6:30-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m., both visitations will be at Wood Funeral Home East Side (963 South Ammon Road).
