JAMES COX
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- James Edward Cox, 75 of Idaho Falls, died September, 27, 2007, from heart complications at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 19, 1932, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Leland and Evelyn Louise Bell Cox. He grew up and attended school there, graduating from Tulsa Central High in 1950. His interest in math and science led him to Oklahoma State University, where he graduated in 1955 with a B.S. Degree in Geology.
His new life as a geologist with Gulf Oil in Wyoming was put on hold for a few years when he served in the U.S. Air Force as a multi-engine Bomber Pilot during the Korean War. Upon leaving the Air Force he returned to being a geologist in Wyoming, where he not only found oil but something far more valuable . . . Marcia Dick. They were married October 15, 1960, in Casper, Wyoming.
In the years that followed, his exploration and research skills led him across much of the western United States. Jim's most important finding, however, was not " Black Gold" but the Bible, and after extensive study he became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1969.
He continued working as a geologist, and later at the Idaho National Laboratories (INEEL) he wrote and edited Environmental Impact Documents. He retired in 1995, but continued to work on an advisory or consulting basis, specializing in construction site evaluation and groundwater movement with respect to environmental impact.
He is survived by Marcia, his wife of 47 years; a son Galen (Marilyn) Cox of Denver, Colorado; and a daughter, Cydney (Adam) Goyen of Idaho Falls. He was preceded in death by a son, Karsten, and a sister, Francis.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday October 6, 2007, at the Idaho Falls Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall, 1480 Jefferson Avenue.
