JAMES BATES Click here to view James's Video Tribute IDAHO FALLS, ID -- James "Jim" W. Bates, 62, passed away May 7, 2010, at his home in Idaho Falls from complications of pneumonia. He was born August 7, 1947, in Redlands, California, to William Hazard Bates and Bette Jean Reynolds Bates. His father passed away in 1961 and his mother married Clyde E. Denning. The family then moved to the Idaho Falls area and he graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He attended the University of Idaho and majored in mathematics. He joined the Army and served during the Vietnam War. On July 9, 1980, he married Carol Barbara Storms in Ammon and they had two children, Jaime Lynn and Derek John. Jim worked most of his adult life in trucking and the auto parts business. He worked at Erickson Pontiac GMC for 25 years as the parts manager. Above all, Jim was a loving father and husband who loved life. He was a man of integrity and compassion and liked to share his knowledge and enthusiasm for life with those around him. He enjoyed life and people enjoyed being with him. The best day that Jim could have would be one spent outdoors fishing, hunting or working in his yard. As a motorcross enthusiast, Jim enjoyed racing and later in life, coaching and cheering his son, Derek, in the sport. Jim was a member of the Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Carol of Ammon; Daughter: Jaime Lynn (Tyler) Mayo of Des Moines, Iowa; Son: Derek John (Liz) Bates of Idaho Falls; Brother: Bob Bates (Jack Garcia) of Oakland, California; Sister: Janet (Rick) Woods of Boone, North Carolina; Stepbrother: Alan (Linda) Denning of Salt Lake City, Utah; Stepsister-in-law: Brenda Denning Stepsister: Lora (Dave) Seidenstrang of Austin, Texas; 4 Grandchildren, Ashtyn, Corinne, Jaxe and in his heart, Trinidee He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Clyde Denning, and step-brother Keith Denning. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Wood Funeral Home East Side Chapel, 963 S. Ammon Road.. The family will visit with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
