IDAHO FALLS, ID -- James LaVern Allen, 83, formerly of Idaho Falls, passed away November 21, 2008, at his home in Mesa, Arizona.
He was born June 4, 1925, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to James Allen and Etta Waters Allen. He grew up and attended schools in the area. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On June 7, 1945, he married Helen Tippits Allen in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in August of 1963. He worked as a Crane Operator for 21 years at Westinghouse.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Scouting Program, as Executive Secretary, and for seven years was a temple worker. He also took care of the Ward Building for several years. LaVern enjoyed motorcycle riding, growing raspberries and tomatoes, and being in the outdoors. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

12 Grandchildren & 14 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, James Henry Allen; two brothers, Lyle Allen and Theo Allen; two stepbrothers, Marlon Gardner and Norman Gardner; and a sister, Blanche Staggie.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008, at the Idaho Falls LDS 2nd Ward, 885 South Boulevard, with Bishop Pete Demitropoulos officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery with Military Rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
