JACKSON L. HAYMAN
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Jackson Lee Hayman, 79, passed away
on December 6, 2003, at the home of his son in Idaho Falls.
He was born on May 27, 1924, in Delmar, Delaware, the
son of Wilmer Lee Hayman and Hettie Ellen White. He had one sister Carolyn.
He attended Worchester Polytechnic Institute under the Naval Officers
Training Program (V-12) and received his Electrical Engineering Degree
and his commission in the United States Navy. He served as an engineering
officer in the Pacific theater of World War II and as a Squadron Engineer
during the Korean War.
He worked for Baldwin Locomotive as a Design Engineer
and spent many days on the tracks testing new engines as they were released
from the manufacturing plant. He joined the duPont Company in 1953 and
worked there until he retired in 1985. He worked as a technical marketing
representative in the textile fibers division and interfaced with NASA
for the Apollo program and with Goodyear, Goodrich and other companies
developing specialized uses of textile fibers in tires, belts, hoses and
safety equipment.
He married Marjorie Jane Conrad (deceased) on November 3, 1945. They were
married for 52 years. They had two sons: Dr. Alan Conrad (Kay) Hayman
(deceased) and Philip Lee (Barbara) Hayman of Idaho Falls. He had four
grandchildren - Shannon, Rita, Weston and Jennifer.
He was an avid craftsman and artist who worked in several
mediums – leather, acrylics, and oils. He enjoyed woodworking and
made many pieces of furniture that have been enjoyed by family members.
He enjoyed wood carving and carved many songbirds that are admired by
many. He enjoyed target shooting especially when he took his grandchildren
with him.
The family will meet with friends on Thursday, December
11, 2003 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge Ave.)
