Jack Whitehead

Jack E. Whitehead, 82, of Idaho Falls passed away September 25, 2010 at his cabin in Palisades. Jack was born March 1, 1928 in Idaho Falls to Rulon S. Whitehead and Ilene Janes Whitehead. He lived in Iona, later moving to Ammon where he attended school and continued his education at Idaho State University. He was a lifelong resident of the Idaho Falls area. He enlisted in the United States Navy on May 17, 1944 at the age of 16, serving in the Asiatic -Pacific Campaign as a Radioman for the USN military government unit in Okinawa. On September 2, 1946, he married Nedeen Garner and together they raised two children, Trudy and Tory. Jack retired as an accounting manager for the INL. As a youth, he was a campjack and sheepherder for his stepfather, George Nielsen. He was a part time hunting guide for Dr. Hatch in the Idaho primitive area. He was also a part time fishing guide for his brother-in-law, Boots Allen of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He was a past member of the Elks, the Elks Gleeman, and the Bonneville County Sportsman Association. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing and fly tying in his younger years. Later, he enjoyed wildlife viewing, photography, gardening, and collecting antiques. Survivors include: Trudy (James) Beilke, Apple Valley, CA Tory (Lisa Ker) Whitehead, Tetonia, ID Sister: Georgelean Nielsen Olvera, CA Brother: Rulon Whitehead, Idaho Falls, ID 1 Grandchild , Josh & 1 Great grandchild, Ashling. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nedeen, and his sister Donna Burgie. Graveside Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Ammon Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that memorial donations be made in Jack’s name to Development Workshop Inc., 555 W. 25th Street, Idaho Falls, ID 83402.
