JACK G. VOSHELL
IDAHO FALLS, ID - Jack Galen Voshell, 82, of Idaho Falls,
Idaho passed away July 11, 2003, at the Idaho Falls Care Center from complications
following a debilitating stroke suffered in 1986
He was born September 3, 1920, in Kingsdown, Kansas, the
third child of Lewis P. Voshell and Dorotha Alice Saunders Voshell. Jack
moved with his parents to Dodge City, Kansas, where he attended school from
the sixth grade through high school. He graduated from Dodge City Junior
College, and later finished college at Washburn Law University in Topeka,
Kansas. He practiced law with a firm in Dodge City prior to moving to Idaho
Falls in 1950. He was admitted to the Idaho State Bar in 1953.
Jack served in the military during World War II, participating
in three theaters of war: North Africa, European, and C.B.I. Theater of
War (China, Burma, India). Subsequently, he served in the Army Reserve as
a 1st Lieutenant.
With a partner, Jack founded an independent insurance adjusting
agency in the early 50s. He sold his interest upon passing the Idaho Bar,
then engaged in a private law practice from 1953 until his stroke in 1986.
Jack was appointed by Mayor John Rogers as Police Judge,
an arbiter for labor-management employment practice disputes. He served
three terms as Prosecuting Attorney for Bonneville County, as well as serving
as Prosecuting Attorney for Clark County. He served as president of the
Seventh Judicial District Bar Association.
As a member of the First Presbyterian Church, he served
as a deacon, elder, and clerk of session. He has been a member of the American
Legion, the District Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the
Exchange Club and past president of the Idaho Falls Country Club. He was
one of the originators of the Youth Harbor, Inc. (Harbor House). He served
on the Civil Service Board and authored the Idaho Falls Civil Service Rules
and Regulations.
Jack was an outdoor enthusiast. He participated in downhill
skiing, water skiing, boating, fly-fishing, hunting, golf, and his favorite
- motorcycling.
Jack is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joyce Tiahrt
Voshell; a daughter, Cheryl Larson of Salt lake City, UT; 2 sons, Stanley
(Mary Ellen) Voshell of Boise, ID and Stephen (Sandy) Voshell of Magna,
UT; nine grandchildren; a sister, Merlyn Barker of Pratt, Kansas and a brother,
Milo Voshell of Spokane, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents
and a sister.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2003, at the
First Presbyterian Church (325 Elm), with Reverend Dr. Dennis Falasco officiating.
Private burial services will be at Taylor Cemetery under the direction of
Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., Idaho Falls, ID 83402. Military rites
will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
The family extends their sincere appreciation and thanks
for the loving care extended to Jack by the Idaho Falls Care Center and
Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
