JACK W. MEYER, SR.
MADISON, SD -- Jack Warren Meyer, Sr., 85, died July 20, 2008, at the Madison Community Hospital in Madison, South Dakota.
He was born March 21, 1923, at Colton, California, to Alfred Henry and Alice Minnie Crowther Meyer.
He married Dorothy Maxine Jones on Nov. 20, 1941, at Las Vegas, Nevada. She died of cancer on May 24, 1970. Jack married Dorris (Jones) McLing on Oct. 22, 1971, at Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the president and CEO of A. H. Meyer and Sons Honey Co. until January 1, 2008, when he sold the business to his son, Jack Meyer, Jr.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Madison Elks Club, and was active in the American Honey Producers Association (a trade organization for the beekeeping industry). Jack and his brother Irel invented numerous items for use in the beekeeping industry.
Survivors include his wife Dorris of Madison; and his children Jack (Peggy) Meyer, Madison, SD; Janet (Lorin) Tobler, Tempe, AZ: Susan (Jay) Barber, Tallahassee, FL; Reynold (Michele) Meyer, Tallahassee, FL; Lynn (Sharon) McLing, Preston, ID; Myrna (Gary) Odell, Idaho Falls, ID; 32 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, wife, brother, two granddaughters and a great grandson.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2008. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, in Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
Services are also being held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison, South Dakota, with visitation beginning at 12 Noon.
