Jack Allen Messenger, 77, passed away October 23, 2014 in Idaho Falls. Jack lived within a mile of the home he was born in on Crowley Road, on April 24, 1937, in Iona, Idaho.
His parents were Ray Eugene “Bud” Messenger and Madeline Ball Butler. He was proud to be an Idaho native and only ventured out of our beautiful state for a few short periods to obtain work. He enjoyed working with cattle, horses and growing crops.
Jack told many stories of hunting deer and elk with brothers-in-law Steve and Ron Owens. Jack has many fishing poles and each pole has many stories.
He married Carolyn Jean Owens from Shelley (New Sweden area), Idaho, on September 18, 1957. She was the absolute love of his life and preceded him in passing on January 7, 2012.
Together they raised three sons, Ross, Bryan, and Mark. Their house was always full of love, laughter and lots of great food. If you didn’t have a sense of humor when you arrived, you would have one when you left! Many of the cousins have fond memories with Jack, Carolyn, and the boys.
He is survived by his older brother, Arlin, three sons, 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service for Jack November 1, 2014 at the Adventure Center, from 1-3 p.m. at 775 Lincoln Drive, Idaho Falls (just off 9th Street).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the local Humane Society to support the animals that Jack thought so much of. His companion dog, Annie - a rescue dog, was important to him in his late life.
