MONTEVIEW, ID -- Jack Jones McGarry, 86, of Monteview, formerly of Medicine Lodge, passed away May 6, 2009, at Mt. Vernon Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice.
Jack was born January 6, 1923, in Independence, Idaho, to Pete and Flossie Jones McGarry. He was the youngest of five children. Jack grew up helping on the family ranch in Independence and Kilgore and attended school in Rexburg. He graduated from Madison High School in 1941 and thereafter attended Ricks College.
He enlisted in the U. S. Army and served as a Staff Sergeant in the Pacific Theater from 1944-1946. He was always proud to have served his country.
Jack met and later married Marva Ann Thomas in Dubois, Idaho, on June 23, 1948. They enjoyed 55 years together before Marva’s death August 28, 2003. They were the parents of three children.
Throughout his life time Jack was involved in ranching operations. He spent many years at the Railroad Ranch in Island Park before purchasing and operating the family ranch in Medicine Lodge and Monteview.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was active in the Clark County Republican Central Committee, chaired the 32-C Water District, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marva, and four siblings, Loren J. McGarry, Rula Rainey, Roy McGarry, and Wanda McGarry. He is survived by his children, Jacqui A. (Jeff) Walbom of Osgood, Patrick T. McGarry of Monteview, and Jo (Brad) Martin of Lewiston, Idaho, 7 grandchildren, Josh Walbom, Jenni (Brett) Hulet, Madeline McGarry, Samuel McGarry, Savannah McGarry, Abigail McGarry and Anna Martin, and 2 great grandchildren, Braxton Hulet and Jozalyn Hulet.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009, at the Dubois LDS Beaver Creek Ward, 471 East 2nd South, Dubois, ID. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Dubois Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
