Jack Anthony Lance, 77, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 9, 2015, peacefully at his home. Jack was born on April 28, 1938, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Noel Jefferson Lance and Iris Oliverson Keller Lance. He had four brothers and four sisters. Jack’s father passed away at an early age, and he being the oldest at 12 years old, took on the role of helping support the family. He attended Idaho Falls High School. After high school, he was drafted into the Army serving in the 101st Airborne. He was honorably discharged from the Army and his career path changed. While working as a firefighter at the Site, he met his wife, JoAnn Edith Qualman. On April 18, 1964, he married JoAnn and they made their home in Idaho Falls. They were married for 50 wonderful years. Jack was the father to five children and took pride in teaching his children the value of a dollar and hard work. He was a firefighter for 20 years for the city of Idaho Falls. He retired to take on his life long dreams. Being a "Jack of all trades" he owned multiple businesses during his life. Jack had great business partners that helped him succeed. He took the greatest pride in owning Asphalt Maintenance Inc. and a farming operation with his sons. His favorite sayings were "Make sure you take that off your timesheet" and "I love work. I could watch people do it for hours." He went to great lengths to spend time with his kids. Because he worked all summer, family vacations were in the fall and winter. He loved taking his boys hunting and fishing every chance he got. Snow machining was an activity enjoyed together as a family. He took pride in knowing his girls could ride just as good as the boys. Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends. He spent a majority of his free time fishing the Salmon River. Throughout his life he had a love for horses. He owned several race horses and enjoyed spending time at the track. He started and ended each day at the coffee shop joking around with his friends. He loved being a grandfather. Grandkids loved to come see Grandpa Jack because he liked to spoil them. His grandkids had the opportunity to hunt, fish, and play cribbage with him. Jack is survived by his son, Brett (Kristy) Lance of Rigby, ID; son, Trevor Lance of Menan, ID; daughter, Candace Sheppard (Lynn) of Rigby, ID; daughter, Kimberly Hansen (Jason) of Valdez, AK; son, Brandon Lance (Valerie) of Blackfoot, ID; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, JoAnn; granddaughter, Keely Marie Lance; parents, Noel and Iris Lance; brother, Roy Grover Lance; and sister, Annie Carrig. Jack was a very important part of his family and will be greatly missed.
