Ivan Thomas

Ivan Raymond Thomas, 69, of Ammon, passed away July 12, 2018, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.Ivan was born August 5, 1948, in Provo, Utah, to Harold George Thomas and Effie May Betteridge Thomas. He earned his Doctorate Degree in Statistics from the University of Wyoming. He served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant from 1972 to 1974. On May 3, 2002, he married Linda Higbie Steckel in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Ivan and Linda made their home in Ammon, Idaho. Ivan worked as a Statistician for the Idaho National Laboratory for 39 years. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many callings. He was a very humble and generous man. Ivan loved learning and reading the scriptures. He and Linda enjoyed working in the yard and garden together. Ivan is survived by his loving wife, Linda Thomas of Ammon, ID, son, Matt (Sabrina) Thomas of Idaho Falls, ID, son, Adam Thomas of Green Bay, WI, son, Kirk Joseph (Maggie) Thomas of Lehi, UT, brother, Harold (Gloria) Thomas of Spanish Fork, UT, sister, Naomi (Mike) Kent of Pleasant Grove, UT, sister, Prydwen (Gary) Metzger of Springville, UT, parents-in-law, Stephen and Yvonne Steckel of Las Vegas, NV, brother-in-law, Michael (Doris) Steckel of Las Vegas, NV, and 9 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Effie Thomas, and sister, Ann C. Buckmiller. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018, at the Ammon LDS 5th Ward, 2055 S. Ammon Road, with Bishop Paul Lords officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Thursday from 9:15-9:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery where Military Rites will be performed by the Navy Honor Guard.
