IRENE K. HANSEN
IDAHO FALLS, ID - Irene K. Hansen, 84, of Idaho Falls, was called home to be reunited with her family on March 9, 2006.
She was born December 7, 1921, in Bryon, Wyoming, to George John Sauer and Mary Katheriene Henery Sauer. Her parents imigrated from Russia in the late 1800's. They worked as farm laborers in the fields and moved around from place to place trying to find work. Irene worked in Utah at the ammunition factory during World War II.
On July 17, 1937 she married Dallas Thompson, and of this union, one son, Darrell Lee was born. They later divorced. Irene put herself through nursing school to support herself and her son. After receiving her nursing degree, she accepted a job at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Idaho Falls. She worked for 30 years in their Labor and Delivery clinic.
She married Jay Casper in 1959 and he preceded her in death. In 1975, she lost her beloved son, Darrell. She was a very dedicated and loving mother to her son who had many physical disabilities.
She later married Clem Hansen, with whom she moved to Teton Valley and loved ranching there. She so enjoyed the outdoors and every minute working on the ranch with her husband, she once told her nephew she had a name for each cow there. Clem preceded her in death in 1993.
In later life, she enjoyed being with her extended family, doing family history for her many nieces and nephews, and going camping with them. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her stepchildren, step-grandchildren , step great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2006 at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, with Pastor Langdon Renke of Hope Lutheran Church officiating. The family will visit with friends for one hour before services at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.
