Irene Louise Seeley Brown died May 8, 2014. She was born December 23, 1920, in Denver, Colorado. She was the daughter of David Byron Seeley and Louise Niebor Seeley. She lived her first 26 years in Denver. Irene graduated from South High School and the Success Business College, both in Denver. She met Harry Brown at a USO dance in Denver. Afterward, they both rode on the same street car and her escorted her home, where her mother fed them ice cream. He courted her, and they married on August 25, 1946. Irene was of major assistance in getting her husband into and through the Colorado School of Mines. She worked there as a professional secretary and also typed term papers and theses for graduate students. After Harry completed his studies, they moved to Kansas City, Kansas; Los Alamos, New Mexico; and finally Idaho Falls, Idaho. They raised three children: Gordon, Gail, and Glenda, all of whom were encouraged to be active professionals. Irene's personal interests included being a dedicated homemaker and parent, bowling, gardening, and tender of three long-lived cats. She was preceded in death by her parents; her younger sister, Martha (Seeley) Fairbanks; and a brother who died in infancy. She is survived by her husband, Harry; her son, Gordon of Boulder, Colorado; two daughters, Gail Shimmin (Michael Shimmin) of Boulder, Colorado, and Glenda Brown (Randall Siebert) of Lafayette, Colorado; and two granddaughters, Laura Shimmin (Marcus Wang) of Oakland, California, and Karen Shimmin of Chicago. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
