Ira Clark Davis, 95, of Ammon, passed away February 7, 2011 at his home. Ira was born January 17, 1916 in Teton City, Idaho, the eldest son of four children born to Ira Joseph Davis and Louisa Clark Davis. He was raised in the Teton Basin, and lived for a time in Gilmore. He attended school for a time in Leadore, where he carved his initials in a desk, which his children later discovered. Ira married Leola Welker on February 21, 1937 in Rexburg, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized June 5, 1965 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they raised nine children, and enjoyed 74 years of marriage. They made their home in Grant and Swan Valley, where Ira worked for the Weeks Brothers until the Palisades Dam was built. He then moved to Leadore where he worked for James Ellsworth until 1963, when he moved to Idaho Falls to work for Lynn Mickelsen. He moved to Paul to work the Simplot feed lots, then moved back to Lemhi to work for George Ellsworth, later moving to Shoshone, Jerome and then back to Shoshone. On his 65th birthday, Ira bought the old Meppen Farm on County Line Road in Idaho Falls and raised registered Morgan horses, also running an 89-acre ranch until he was 86 years old, when he moved into Idaho Falls to retire. He enjoyed going to rodeos and horse sales until his health gave out on him. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed leather working and made bridles and fixed saddles using leather and rawhide. Survivors include: Wife: Leola Davis, Ammon, ID Daughter: Irene (Marvin) Hutchings, Marsing, ID Daughter: Maureen (Henry) Poteet, Pueblo, CO Daughter: Norma (David) Olson, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Renee (Roy) Quinton, Ammon, ID Son: Steve Davis, Magna, UT Daughter: Joyce (Butch)Hall, Marsing, ID Son: Ted (Helen) Davis, Nampa, ID Daughter: Dionne (Bill) Casey, Merritt Island, FL Sister: Shirla Franz, Driggs, ID Daughter-in-law: Bryl Davis, Yelm, WA 34 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leo Davis, Jay Davis; and son, Glen Davis. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm. Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Ammon LDS 14th Ward, 4363 E. 17th Street with Bishop Judy officiating. The family will visit with friends from 12 Noon until 12:45 p.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, 963 S. Ammon Rd.
