Iona R. Bates - 08/23/2001 Iona R. Bates - 08/23/2001 IONA R. BATES IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Georgia Iona Rigtrup “Iona” Bates, 84, of Idaho Falls, died August 21, 2001, at her home. She was born November 6, 1916 in Burlington, Wyoming to George Franklin Rigtrup and Clara Elizabeth Beckstrom Rigtrup. She lived in Burlington for 3 years, then Spanish Fork, Utah for 20 years, attending schools there and at Utah State University and the LDS Business School. She married Harold William Bates on January 14, 1941 in Tacoma Washington. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 23, 1964. He passed away May 13, 1984. While making Idaho Falls their home for over 50 years, she was a bookkeeper for her husband's plumbing business for many years, as well as secretary for the Idaho Falls Community Chest (United Way) for 6 years, and was the first Secretary to Jim Infelt when he started the YMCA in Idaho Falls. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served 9 years as a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was also active in the DOES for many years and enjoyed bowling and the Denver Broncos. Surviving are:Son: Ronald Harold (Marty) Bates, St. Joseph, MOSon: William “Bill” Clarence (Kathy) Bates, Aurora, COSon: Larry Ray (Marie) Bates, Idaho Falls, ID 9 Grandchildren, 6 Great GrandchildrenShe was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and 5 sisters. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2001, at the Wood Chapel of the Pines, with Bishop Dave Griffiths of the Iona LDS 7th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to services at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shelley-Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
