Iola Thirza Hammon Brown, 90, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 27, 2011, at Idaho Falls Care and Rehab Center of natural causes.
Iola and her twin sister, Itha, were born May 4, 1921, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Willard Levi Hammon and Elizabeth Marie Jordan Hammon. She grew up in Milo and Shelton and graduated from Ucon High School.
Iola married Donald Fredrick Brown June 21, 1939, in Milo, Idaho. They lived at Bassett, about five miles south of Roberts, until 1944, when they moved to Shelton. They lived in Shelton until 1948, when they returned to Roberts. In 1961 they moved to Lewisville, then to Idaho Falls in 1974. Iola was a devoted wife, mother, raising five children and being instrumental in raising five grandchildren, and homemaker. She also worked at Fresh Pak in Lewisville for 13 years. Don passed away June 2, 1988.
Iola was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as librarian, teacher, and historian. She enjoyed family history and family reunions. She especially enjoyed Friday Pinochle with her siblings.

three sons, Duane Donald (Gloria) Brown of Jerome, ID,
Dean Lee (Kathleen) Brown of Blackfoot, ID,
Ronald Lynn (Suzy) Brown of Idaho Falls, ID;
two brothers, Willard "Slim" (LaVon) Hammon of Idaho Falls, ID, and
Donald (Donna) Hammon of Idaho Falls, ID;
two sisters, Elna (Art) Chandler of Idaho Falls, ID, and
Mary (Keith) Garret of Rigby, ID;
22 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Libby Hammon, her husband, Don, her twin sister, Itha Burks, a brother, Willard “Fat” Hammon, two great grandchildren, Ashley Lords and Sean Carey, and two daughters-in-law.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2011, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, both at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be next to her husband, Don, in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
