Ida Fay “Shorty” Womack, 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 8, 2013, in her home, surrounded by her loved ones.
Ida came into this world September 19, 1930, in Gridley, California, born to Harry Winters and Pollyann Skiles Winters. Although Ida spent her life short in stature, she was larger than life in spirit. Growing up, every child in Ida’s life – from her own clear to her great great grandchildren – used her height as a measuring stick in their progression to adulthood.
Ida married Jack Wedin in 1945 and together they raised four wonderful children. First came Janice Fay, born September 19, 1947, which was also Ida’s 17th birthday. This special connection remained throughout Ida’s life. Janice was not only Ida’s only daughter, but also her best friend. In 1951, their son, Bob, joined the family, and their second son, Terry, was born in 1953. In 1959, they welcomed the birth of her last child, Timothy. A homemaker and mother, Ida also worked as a waitress and cocktail waitress, from which she retired. In her younger years she worked at a peach cannery for 25 years.
Later in life Ida was divorced and then married Wallace W. “Wally” Womack, with whom she shared life and his two daughters until his passing in early 2004. Ida lived all her life in Gridley until after Wally passed away. In 2005, she relocated to Challis, Idaho, to be closer to her ever growing family. She moved to Idaho Falls in 2006.
At the time of Ida’s passing she was the very proud “Granny” to 9 grandchildren, 20+ great grandchildren, and 6+ great great grandchildren. Up until her last day on earth, Granny loved and cherished every moment surrounded by her friends and family.
Ida found great joy sitting on a river bank holding onto a fishing pole that seemed larger than she was! She also found pleasure in simple things, like sitting in her backyard watching squirrels play, or simply admiring her beautiful yard. Ida never met a slot machine she didn’t like, and for those of you that knew her, you know those machines loved her, too.
