Hugh was born May 20, 1909, in Lyman, Idaho, to Moroni Robison and Dora Sharp Robison. He recently celebrated his 100th birthday with many friends and family at a reception held in his honor at the Idaho Falls Country Club. Hugh had six siblings. They consisted of four brothers, Lawrence, Lee, Ivan, and Jess; and two sisters, Marjorie and Estella. He and his family homesteaded in Lyman, working many cattle drives, and spending his leisure time fishing, a love which he never lost. Hugh graduated from Madison High School and attended Ricks Academy, where his love of music blossomed. Being extremely musical, Hugh formed his own Big Band during the "Big Band Era,” called the Hugh Robison Orchestra. They played at all the largest, popular dance venues throughout southeastern Idaho. During one of these dances at the Woodman Hall, (at one point located over Rexburg Music Store) Hugh met his future wife, Renee Hertzig. They were married Sept.18, 1932 and spent the next 72 years together. Hugh and Renee lived in Rexburg Idaho, where Hugh continued playing with his Orchestra. He also worked at ZCMI and Idaho Electric, working for Walter Bauchman, before moving to Idaho Falls. There he formed his own business, the Hugh Robison Insurance Agency. Hugh continued to work at his agency until the age of 94, and finally retired when he could no longer physically visit his customers. When Hugh retired, he had the oldest active insurance license in the state of Idaho. Hugh and Renee had five children. His oldest son Hughie joined him in his business after returning from the Army. Hugh continued to play sax and clarinet, go fishing, and instilled in his children the love of nature. Hugh was also involved in the Idaho Falls Symphony for many years, a long time member and supporter of the Idaho Falls Elk's club, and both Hugh and Renee were charter members of the Idaho Falls Country Club. Hugh golfed all his life, even winning a tournament for being the oldest golfer when he was in his 90's. Hugh also picked up the sport of skiing at age 55, at his children's request. Because of his long life, Hugh was preceded in death by nearly everyone in his extended family. These include his wife, Renee Robison, son Hughie, grand son Michael Robison, great grandson Jason Rhoades, and son in law Leon Fisher. Hugh is survived by his four children: Fran Fisher of Pocatello ID, Elaine Rhoades of Idaho Falls ID, Jane Erwin (Brad Erwin) of Sandy UT, Jack Robison (Dianne Bauchman Robison) of Pocatello ID, 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2010 at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave. The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Burial in Fielding Memorial Park . In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Idaho Falls Symphony, 450 A Street, Idaho Falls ID 83402, (208) 529-1080. ---------------------------------------------------- Condolences received online: Robert and Carrie Archibald robert0@cableone.net I work with Dianne at Portneuf Medical Center and on behalf of the work family in the lab we express our prayers and sympathy for the passing of your Father, Father-in-law, Grandpa and mentor.
