Howard J. Norton - 09/05/2002 Howard J. Norton - 09/05/2002 HOWARD J. NORTON IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Howard Jennings Norton, 93, of Idaho Falls, died September 5, 2002, at Turtle & Crane Assisted Living. He was born January 17, 1909 in Logan, Utah to Elvin and Martha Norton. He grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from L.D.S. High School in 1927 and from Utah State University in 1932 with a degree in Dairy Manufacturing. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army ROTC and was a lifelong member of Sigma Chi. He married Vilate Mann January 18, 1933, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He worked in Dairy processing for 27 years in Salt Lake, Pocatello and Logan until he moved to Idaho Falls where he worked for the Idaho State Health Department for 15 years. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States. She passed away September 11, 1997 after 64 years of marriage. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various positions, including ward clerk for seven years and was membership clerk for ten years. He enjoyed sports, traveling, spending time with his family, was an avid reader and was very meticulous in everything he did. Surviving are:Daughter: Kay [Archie] Hurst, Bountiful, UT:Son: Jerry [Jenny] Norton, Ephraim, UTSon: Walter [Yvonne] Norton, Elk Ridge, UTDaughter: Margaret Gardner [Rocky] Arave, Shelley, IDBrother: Joseph (Ida) Norton, Salt Lake City, UTBrother: Donald (Doris) Norton, Vancouver, UTBrother: Harold (Ina) Norton, St. George, UT26 Grandchildren, 59 Great Grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Paul, two brothers, Vernon and Virgil, two sisters, Eleanor and Marva, and a grandson, Ben Norton. Funeral Services will be at 12 Noon Saturday, September 7, 2002, at the Idaho Falls LDS 3rd Ward, 2025 Jennie Lee Drive, with Bishop Nathan Smith officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, and for one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. We were ward members for many years with Brother and Sister Norton.
