Bud was born March 22,1933, at the family home in Downey, Idaho, to Howard Wakley and Violet Martin Wakley. He lived most of his early life in the Downey area. When Bud was about 5 years old he was carrying some milk bottles into the house. He fell and cut his chin on a broken milk bottle. He required several stitches, leaving a very large scar that everyone asked about. When Bud started school his teacher thought he would benefit from wearing glasses. He began his love of reading and study. His family moved to Pocatello, Idaho, and then finally settled in Idaho Falls where he graduated from Idaho Falls High School. Bud served briefly in the United States Air Force and upon returning to Idaho Falls he started working for the Union Pacific Railroad until 1986, when he retired. Bud married Maxine Frisk Wakley from Pocatello on December 31,1960, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. After retiring from the railroad, Bud and Maxine served an 18 month mission at the Family History Center in Idaho Falls. Genealogy and family history was his passion. He received great joy from helping others trace their family history. He also spent many hours tending his yard-planting flowers, trees and bushes. Bud was an avid fisherman but would never tell anyone where the good fishing holes were. Bud was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving as financial clerk in the Iona 1st Ward Bishopric, the Iona Stake, and as Secretary of the High Priests. He was a charter member of the Iona Lions Club. He especially enjoyed helping with the 4th of July community breakfast and giving eye tests to school children. Bud was also a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers and the Union Pacific Old Timers. Bud & Maxine went to several conventions including a trip to see the Queen Mary ocean liner. Bud helped raise his little sister Lana whom he adored. He has many nieces and nephews and he loved to be called "Uncle Bud". He tried to be at all their weddings and mission talks. Bud leaves behind his wife Maxine, daughters Brenda (Curt) Stewart and Terrie (Claude) Landes, grandsons Christian and Brendan Landes, sister Lana (Neil) Kunz and lots of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Howard & Violet Wakley, sister Betty Peterson, a brother and stillborn infant son. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2013, at the Iona 1st Ward, 5169 East Denning Street. The family will meet with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
