HILDEGARDE LUTHY BOISE, ID -- Hildegarde (Hildie) Pauline Litschauer Luthy, 67, longtime resident of Idaho Falls, died at the Idaho Elks Rehabilitative Hospital in Boise, following a short battle with brain cancer. Hildie was born on August 29, 1936, in Genesee, Wisconsin, to Rudolph Litschauer and Rosa Scherzer Litschauer. She attended Wales State and St. James Schools and graduated from Waukesha High School in Wisconsin. She also attended Links School of Business in Idaho Falls. She married Ernest Herman Luthy on January 22, 1955, in Genesee, Wisconsin. Following his return from service overseas, the couple lived in various cities, settling in Idaho Falls in 1963. Here she worked as an Administrative Assistant for several companies at the INEEL including Phillips Petroleum, Idaho Nuclear Corporation, Aerojet and Lockheed Martin until her retirement in 1995. She loved Idaho and enjoyed spending time hiking, camping, hunting and fishing with her family. Hildie and Ernie were accomplished archers and competed in events throughout the Pacific Northwest. Gardening became a passion. She spent many hours nurturing and admiring her roses, peonies and pansies in her yard. Hildie loved to read and was always looking for “the next good book.” During the winters, she honed her skill shooting pool on several local leagues. Hildie was a cowgirl at heart. She enjoyed country music and attending rodeos with her best friend, Norie Garner. Hildie was a member of the National Honor Society. She served as the State President of the National Association of Letter Carriers Auxiliary. She became an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and served as the President of the Ladies Auxiliary and State Mother. She had a huge heart and generously supported numerous charitable organizations. Hildie was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Hildie is survived by her sister, Christine Prosenbauer; brother and sister-in-law, Rudolph and Barbara Litschauer; children, Terrie and Steve Havis, Donn Luthy, and Kim and Jeff Hass; grandchildren, Matthew Willis, Erik Haas, A .J. Luthy, and Nicholas Luthy; her great-grandchild, Ethan Grant Willis and her beloved four-legged companion, Simba. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Rose and Lori; brother, Richard and her daughter, Laurie. Hildie was a kind and gentle spirit. “Dumb Bear” will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church (1690 East 17th Street) with Father Joe MacDonald officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood East Side Chapel, 963 S. Ammon Road. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Eagles Lodge, 635 Hemmert Drive, immediately following the graveside services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society (P. O. Box 1145, Blackfoot, ID 83221) or the Juvenile Diabetes Fund (350 South 400 East, #115, Salt Lake City, UT 84111).
