HILDEGARDE LUTHY
BOISE, ID -- Hildegarde (Hildie) Pauline Litschauer Luthy,
67, longtime resident of Idaho Falls, died at the Idaho Elks Rehabilitative
Hospital in Boise, following a short battle with brain cancer.
Hildie was born on August 29, 1936, in Genesee, Wisconsin,
to Rudolph Litschauer and Rosa Scherzer Litschauer. She attended Wales
State and St. James Schools and graduated from Waukesha High School in
Wisconsin. She also attended Links School of Business in Idaho Falls.
She married Ernest Herman Luthy on January 22, 1955,
in Genesee, Wisconsin. Following his return from service overseas, the
couple lived in various cities, settling in Idaho Falls in 1963. Here
she worked as an Administrative Assistant for several companies at the
INEEL including Phillips Petroleum, Idaho Nuclear Corporation, Aerojet
and Lockheed Martin until her retirement in 1995.
She loved Idaho and enjoyed spending time hiking, camping,
hunting and fishing with her family. Hildie and Ernie were accomplished
archers and competed in events throughout the Pacific Northwest. Gardening
became a passion. She spent many hours nurturing and admiring her roses,
peonies and pansies in her yard. Hildie loved to read and was always looking
for “the next good book.” During the winters, she honed her
skill shooting pool on several local leagues. Hildie was a cowgirl at
heart. She enjoyed country music and attending rodeos with her best friend,
Norie Garner.
Hildie was a member of the National Honor Society. She
served as the State President of the National Association of Letter Carriers
Auxiliary. She became an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles
and served as the President of the Ladies Auxiliary and State Mother.
She had a huge heart and generously supported numerous charitable organizations.
Hildie was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Hildie is survived by her sister, Christine Prosenbauer;
brother and sister-in-law, Rudolph and Barbara Litschauer; children, Terrie
and Steve Havis, Donn Luthy, and Kim and Jeff Hass; grandchildren, Matthew
Willis, Erik Haas, A .J. Luthy, and Nicholas Luthy; her great-grandchild,
Ethan Grant Willis and her beloved four-legged companion, Simba. She was
preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Rose and Lori; brother,
Richard and her daughter, Laurie.
Hildie was a kind and gentle spirit. “Dumb Bear”
will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday,
May 5, 2004, at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church (1690 East 17th
Street) with Father Joe MacDonald officiating. The family will visit with
friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood East Side Chapel, 963 S. Ammon
Road. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. A luncheon will
be held at the Eagles Lodge, 635 Hemmert Drive, immediately following
the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be
made to the American Cancer Society (P. O. Box 1145, Blackfoot, ID 83221)
or the Juvenile Diabetes Fund (350 South 400 East, #115, Salt Lake City,
UT 84111).
