The end of life is in some ways like the end of a new day. Life's journey is long. We get tired. We long for our labors to be finished and the suffering to be over. Ahead lies the night of death. But thank God, morning is coming! A wonderful life lies just ahead for the weary Christian traveler. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord forever (2 Cor. 5:8).
Hilda Neiwirth Goddard, was born on September 15, 1923 to Alexander Neiwirth and Amelia Laubhan (twin), in Burton, Idaho. Hilda was very proud to be the daughter of a twin, a twin herself, and have twin sisters, she was also blessed with twin great grandchildren. After graduating from the Nursing program at the L.D.S Hospital, she enlisted as a Nurse Cadet where she served her country at Fort Lewis in Washington.
Hilda married the love of her life, Marvin Kenneth Goddard on September 8, 1946 and was blessed with four beautiful children. Lee Ann, Jack Lynn, Cary June, and Ross Karl.
Throughout their life Hilda and Marv had many adventures. They farmed in the Idaho Falls area, ranched in Montana, and finally settled in Mackay Idaho, where they enjoyed life together until Marv's untimely death in 1993.
While raising her children, she was involved in numerous activities with school, church, and the community. She enjoyed PTA, 4-H Camps, and being a Sunday school teacher.
She was too busy raising her family to practice nursing, however, it came in handy with the treatment of sick livestock. She did volunteer as a nurse at various summer camps for 12 years. She said "that was a delight and the highlight of my summers!" She loved taking each one of her grandkids to summer camps all over the northwest.
"Life has been good and God has blessed me with good health, wonderful family, and opportunities to travel. I will do so until the money runs out or I get too old to do it anymore, whichever comes first" wrote Hilda.
Hilda was extremely independent and continued her adventurous life with numerous trips to Germany to visit her Russian family, toured Isreal, built house in Mexico on a mission and visited Guadalajara. She was a strong supporter of her country and attended the Republican National Convention in Dallas, TX. She took many treasured trips with her family, Hawaii on her 80th birthday, family cruises, the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and Washington D.C.
Hilda is survived by her four children, Lee Ann (Greg) Ferris of Hailey, ID, Jack (Rosemary) Goddard of Idaho Falls, Cary Shillington of San Diego, CA, and Ross (Sue) Goddard of Salmon. She will also be missed by her seven grandchildren Joshua (Hailey) Goddard, Tyler (Michelle) Ferris, Lawrence (Bianca) Duffin, Jayme (Matt) Thompson, Darcy Duffin, Natalia Ferris, and Tahnee (Ryan) Fornstrom. Hilda also was blessed to be great grandma to Jackson, Kennady, Mattson, Madison, Hannah, Reegan, Lawrence IV, Dawson, Greyson, Lincoln, Cade, and Kinsey (twins).
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Marvin Goddard.
