Henry Weick

Henry Otto Weick passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013, at Peach Tree Assisted Living in West Haven, Utah. His family spent his last day on earth by his side, comforting him and remembering his life. Henry was born in Notus, Idaho, on February 17, 1925, to Otto Albert and Maria Elizabeth Reschke Weick. He graduated from Notus High School. Henry joined the United States Navy in 1943 as an officer candidate. The Navy sent him to the University of Minnesota for his education, and he received a degree in Naval Science and Tactics. Upon graduation, he was assigned to a ship and spent some time at sea. He enjoyed this time of his life immensely and loved telling stories about the Navy. He later retired from the Naval Reserves. He loved the fact that, years later, he could visit a military base, show his military ID, and receive a salute from the Security Forces at the gate. In 1947, he met his future wife, Dawn Abbott, at work and they began their courtship. Henry and Dawn were married on July 25, 1950, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. Henry and Dawn made their first home in Idaho Falls but later moved for a short time to Pinedale, Wyoming, where Henry managed a small bank. They later moved to Rexburg, Idaho, where they lived for 13 years. While in Rexburg, Henry managed the local branch of Idaho First National Bank. He held the position of Bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in addition to many other church callings. In 1979, Henry and Dawn moved to Boise, Idaho, where Henry sold insurance and investments. Because of Henry's lifelong interest in farming, he ran for a position as director on the board of the Nampa Meridian Irrigation District. His involvement with the irrigation district was a source of great satisfaction for him, and he was instrumental in implementing pressurized irrigation systems in the area. He was inducted into the Idaho Water Users Hall of Fame for his contributions. Henry's wife, Dawn, passed away on December 3, 2005, after 55 years of marriage. He missed his "Dolly", as he called her, very much and talked about her often. After leaving Boise, Henry spent his time either in Utah with his daughters or in New Hampshire with his son. When traveling became too difficult because of his age, he settled at Peach Tree Place Assisted Living in West Haven, Utah, where he was living when he died. His family members are very grateful they were able to spend the last years of his life helping to take care of him just as he had done for all of them. Henry was a dedicated family man, who showed his love every day by providing for his family. He was a practical joker, and everyone who knew him can tell stories about his sense of humor. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, camping and back packing. For years, he enjoyed lunchtime racquetball or handball games with his friends. In Boise, he spent many happy hours maintaining his large, productive garden. Henry is survived by his children, Paula Stuart, Doug Weick, Pam Campbell, and Annette Weick; seven grandchildren, Adam, Richard, Jennifer, Jessa, Maria, Megan and Nicole; and five great-grandchildren, Emma, Janika, Jaiden, Evan, and Alex. He was preceded in death by his wife Dawn; his eldest daughter Diana; his parents Otto and Maria Weick; and his sisters Mina, Bertha and Emma. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2013, at the Rexburg Cemetery, 312 Cemetery Road.
