Helen Mcdonald

Helen Jane Losee McDonald, 84, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2014, at Fairwinds-Sandcreek Retirement Community. Helen was born in Provo, Utah, on February 9, 1930, to William Archibald Losee and Emma Adella Wilson. Her mother passed away when she was three, and Helen was primarily raised by her grandparents, Claude William Wilson and Amelia Jane Evans. During her high school years, she lived with her father and step-mother, Violet King Losee. She graduated from Provo High School. On January 6, 1949, she married Richard Smith McDonald in Evanston, Wyoming. They later solemnized their marriage in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 10, 1997. During their nearly 61 years of marriage, they lived together in many locations, including Provo, Dragerton, Moab, and Orem, UT; Gallop, NM; Sterling, CO; and Grand Forks, ND, before settling in Idaho Falls in 1975. During their years together, Helen and Richard raised three children; Larry, Kristine, and Scott. Helen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in various callings. Helen belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and held positions of responsibility, including, at times, president and secretary. She actively participated in the Women’s Golf Association . Helen was a proud stay-at-home mother, but when duty called, she was able to work alongside her husband in his various business ventures, including a family-owned ice business in Moab, and in the cable industry when it was still in its infancy. Helen’s favorite pastime was golf. She played in local tournaments and liked to visit courses around the area. She enjoyed seeing new places and was always up for a good road trip. Airplanes were avoided, if possible. She especially enjoyed getting together with her friends, whether for lunch, bridge, or a sorority service project. Her mind seemed to always be active, and if nothing else was pressing, there was a good chance she was watching sports on television, especially golf, the Utah Jazz, or a BYU game, while simultaneously working on the days’ crossword puzzle, or reading the newspaper. Survivors include her son, Larry R. McDonald of Santa Ana, CA; her daughter, Kristine (James) Streeter of Layton, UT; seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; and her son, Scott. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, at the Idaho Falls LDS East View Ward, 2349 Virlow Street, with Bishop John Irving officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Wood East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services Friday at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
