Hazel was born June 12, 1911, in Willow Creek (Ucon), Idaho, the daughter of Mortimor and Cora Jane Bate Billman. At the age of 6, the family moved to Garfield where she attended school through the eighth grade. She married Albert Henry Clegg on April 17, 1930, in Blackfoot, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on October 31, 1933. They lived in Ucon, where she was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a Primary president and as a teacher in the Relief Society, 18 years in the Ward and Stake Young Women’s organizations, and as a Sunday School teacher. She worked in the kitchen of the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls for 11 years, supervised the school lunch program in the Ucon schools, served as a volunteer supervisor of the Genealogical libraries in the Idaho Falls area, and served as head supervisor of the Idaho Falls Family History Center. During this time, she helped with a genealogy conference at Ricks College. She had been an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers for 70 years. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, fishing, genealogy, camping, and hiking, especially with the mutual girls in her ward. She gathered much family history, even traveling cross-country in a motorhome with her daughter Shirley, visiting court houses, churches, libraries, and cemeteries. She was instrumental in having four volumes of Billman Family History published and donated to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. She served an 18 month mission for the LDS church at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. After her husband died in 1981, she moved to Idaho Falls and worked in the LDS Temple; later she moved to Utah and lived in Magna and Sandy, where she lived with her daughter, Shirley, for a time. She moved to Lincoln Court Assisted Living center in Idaho Falls in January 1997. She was selected as Mrs. Lincoln Court in 1998. She is survived by her daughter Shirley (Richard W.) Holder of Sandy, Utah, 9 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren, and 14 Great-great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert H. Clegg, three brothers, four sisters, and two daughters, Leta (James H.) Jones and Marlene (Fran) DeBiasi.
