Harold Orme

Harold Ralph Orme, 88, of Idaho Falls, passed away Monday, May 29, 2018. Harold was born to Parley and Mary Orme on September 15, 1929, in Idaho Falls. He grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. Harold enjoyed and excelled in physical sports, including football, wrestling and boxing. He attended Ricks College where he competed as a champion boxer with a record of 55-5-1. While at Ricks, Harold met Valois Neeley. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 20, 1951. They had six children. After the death of his father, Harold and his brothers, Marion and JC, took over the family ranch in the foothills east of Bone, Idaho. He enjoyed raising sheep, riding horses, training sheep dogs and later raising cattle. He began work at the Idaho National Laboratory in the early 1960s. He worked in various jobs, including health physics and shipping coordination. Harold was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as Bishop of the Idaho Falls 26th Ward and later as Agent Bishop. He also served as a counselor in two bishoprics and enjoyed teaching Gospel Doctrine. Harold felt a special calling to help those in need. After retirement, Harold and Valois enjoyed serving a mission to Laie, Hawaii. While in Hawaii, they worked with Hawaii Reserves, an LDS company. They returned as volunteers throughout the next 10 years and enjoyed snorkeling, swimming and spending time with friends and other service missionaries. When not in Hawaii, Harold often participated in square dancing socials with his wife and friends. He also loved being in Island Park at the family cabin, chopping wood, tinkering with snowmobiles and overseeing the family fun. After Valois's death, Harold moved to Fairwinds Retirement Community where he lived for the next five years. Harold is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Valois Neeley Orme; parents, Parley Pratt Orme and Mary Hall Orme Moir; brother, Marion Orme; sisters, Shirley Dalling and Linda Dennis; and great-granddaughter, Mariee Orme.
