GY C. HANSEN
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Gy Carlton Hansen, 70, of Idaho Falls, passed away September 8, 2006, at Idaho Falls Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Gy was born January 11, 1936, in Mount Pleasant, Utah, to Gy Carlton Hansen and Ethel Vendora Shepherd Hansen. When he was 7 years old the family moved to Idaho Falls, where he grew up and attended Hawthorne Elementary School, O. E. Bell Junior High School, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1954. He then attended Brigham Young University and took classes through the University of Idaho Extension. He served in the U. S. Army and Idaho National Guard and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis.
Gy married Janis Ann Moore October 10, 1958, for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He began working at the INEL in August, 1962, and retired in December, 2001. He worked in the first days of the computer era at the site as a programmer and later as a systems analyst.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gy served in various capacities over the years. In his youth he served a full-time mission to the North Central States. He coached youth sports over a span of 40 years. He served on the Board of American Legion Baseball and was Booster Club President at Idaho Falls High School. He was a member of the American Legion Post 56. Gy enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and going to their activities.
Survivors include his wife, Janis Hansen of Idaho Falls, two daughters, Mitzi Gaye (Kim) Stosich of Idaho Falls, her children, Melinda Lee, (great grandchildren, Kaleb Emil, Carston Edward, Brookelyn Lee), Michael Todd (great grandson, Tayson Gy), Timothy James “TJ”, and Jordan Andrew; Laura Lee (Rick Alan) Bowser of Centerville, UT, and her children, Nicholas Alan, Elder Tyson Lee Bowser (serving in the Alabama Birmingham Mission), Derrick Scott, and Chad Gy; and a son, Todd Carlton (Marci) Hansen of Idaho Falls, and his children, Grace Marie, Jane Elise, Jaidyn Rachel Oldroyd, and Brock Carlton; two brothers, Reese Hansen of Idaho Falls, and Merril Hansen; three sisters, Joyce Terry of Ogden, UT, Carol (Rod) Ragan of Idaho Falls, and Billie (Frank) Wilson of Willard, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and three brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 14, 2006, at the Idaho Falls LDS 21st Ward, 1155 East First Street, with Craig Shull of the Idaho Falls 21st Ward Bishopric officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, and Thursday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team.
