Guy Alexander Poulsen, Jr., 84, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. For the past year, he was under the care of his family and Alliance Home Health and Hospice.
Guy was born September 24, 1933, in Plano, Idaho. At age three, his mother passed away and Guy and his sister, Ann, were adopted by Guy Alexander Poulsen, Sr. and Elizabeth Davis Kershaw Poulsen. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls, graduating from Idaho Falls High School. His higher education was in Provo and Salt Lake City, Utah.
On September 4, 1952, he married Nellie Edith Curnutt in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Guy and Nellie were high school sweethearts and were married for almost 66 years. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where Guy worked at the Idaho National Laboratories (INL), owned and operated a shoe store, and worked as a Sales Rep for a number of National Companies. He retired from Utah Power and Light in 1991.
He was a member of the Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce, sat on the Board of Directors of KID Radio, and played trumpet with the Idaho Falls Symphony for two years. Guy was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Guy is survived by his loving wife, Nellie Poulsen of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Brian (Pam) Poulsen of Fresno, CA; son, Guy A. (Kathy) Poulsen, III of Irwin, ID; daughter, Terrie (Dave) Mackley of St. George, UT; brother, Ray Oakey of Rexburg, ID; sister, Patsy Lemons of Idaho Falls, ID; 20 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Roseann Poulsen, a sister, Ann Stevenson, and a grandson, Guy A. Poulsen, IV.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 16, 2018, at the Idaho Falls LDS Woodruff 1st Ward (1660 - 12th Street) with Bishop Jay Child officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 6:30-8:00 pm at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge Avenue) and Friday from 10-10:45 am prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
