Gregory Newberry passed away at the age of 68, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on June 15, 2025, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, due to injuries sustained in a fall at his home in Hansen, Idaho.
Greg was born October 16, 1956 in Vancouver, Washington state, to Floyd and Grace Newberry. He attended Twin Falls High School as well as supplementary courses through the College of Southern Idaho.
At 18 years of age Greg married Rita Jan Cole on October 26, 1974, in Twin Falls, Idaho. They lived in Twin Falls for a time, and then moved to Burley, prior to their daughter Heather's birth in 1976. About a year later they moved back to Twin Falls, where Greg started working for Radio Shack, and began his life-long love affair with computer technology, which was in its infancy at that time. After Radio Shack, Greg worked for a time for Computer Land. Then, in 1988, the family moved to Woodland, Washington.
In Woodland, Greg worked for Fleetwood Manufacturing, in the tape & texture section, building manufactured homes. In time Greg and Rita started their own janitorial business, and Greg did computer consulting on the side. The time in Woodland was very enjoyable for Greg, Rita and Heather, but in order to be near family they moved back to Twin Falls in 1994, and Greg began working for the State of Idaho, Department of Health & Welfare as Region 5's IT Computer Technician, for a total of 17 years.
Greg was a man of many talents, and loved learning new things. He was always fascinated with electronics and radios, and at a fairly young age learned Morse code and became a licensed ham radio operator. He loved cars and engines and was a good mechanic. As a kid, he taught himself to play the guitar, and became an excellent musician. He became interested in photography, built a darkroom, and took amazing photographs. His favorite recreation was camping, especially in the South Hills.
As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Greg believed with all his heart, mind and strength in Jesus' promise in the Bible at John 5:28, 29, which tells us that all that are in the grave will hear Jesus' voice, and be resurrected. He also believed the promise in Psalms 37:9-11, which tells us that those hoping in Jehovah will possess the earth, and find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.
Greg is survived by his wife, Rita Newberry; his daughter, Heather (Aric) Duffy; his grandson, Dylan Duffy; his mother, Grace Newberry; his brother, Bryan (Christy) Newberry; his sisters, Cathy Newberry and Marila (Fred) Rogers; his brother-in-law, Martin (Jenger) Cole; niece, Samantha (Gonzolo) Nava; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends without number. He was dearly loved, and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Greg was preceded in death by his son, Eric Floyd Newberry; his sister, Dena Newberry; his brother-in-law, Myles Cole; his uncle, Jim Newberry and aunt, Dorothy Newberry; and his father, Floyd Delzo Newberry.
